While Banquo is killed, Fleance manages to escape. Banquo's ghost later appears to Macbeth, haunting him and symbolizing his guilt and descent into madness. The character of Banquo serves as a contrast to Macbeth, representing integrity and moral virtue, as opposed to Macbeth's increasing corruption and ambition.
